In the Speech from the Throne on September 23, 2020, the Government of Canada announced that it plans to extend the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy ("CEWS") through to the summer of 2021. Although details about the extension have not been released, the Government stated that it intends to "work with businesses and labour to ensure the program meets the needs of the health and economic situation as it evolves".
