On 1 September 1996, the first part of the new Labour Code provisions comes into effect including, inter alia, amendments relating to mass redundancies and employment agencies. Other amended sections shall come into effect in January 1997. The amendment of the Labour Code will probably result in a decrease in competitiveness of Slovak companies and possibly also in an increase in unemployment.
