The Pittsburgh Penguins have finalized a groundbreaking agreement with local community groups after years of negotiations involving the development of the 28 acre site where the former Civic Arena once stood. The agreement provides for, among other things, the inclusion of minority participation in the development of the 28 acres and a percentage of affordable housing.
The announcement, made by City and County officials earlier this
week, was a turning point in what has been a long process of
negotiations between competing interest groups and stakeholders in
the Hill District. In articles published in the Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Business Times, the team and local
political leaders announced a wide ranging set of terms addressing
the minority participation details and the percentage of affordable
housing.
