Patent Bots, the creator of AI-enabled software-as-a-service applications for patent attorneys, has included Lowenstein Sandler in its fifth annual Patent Quality Rankings of top patent law firms for both the volume and quality of its patent filings.

Lowenstein ranks eighth in Patent Bot's quality scores among most active firms (those with at least 500 patents issued in the last year), with 1,054 patents issued. Lowenstein also ranked fifth in USPTO Tech Cener 2100 for computer architecture and software.

The Patent Quality Rankings are based on average errors in issued patents. Patent Bots uses its advanced machine learning software to review every patent issued by the USPTO in the past year, which totaled nearly 324,000 in 2023. It then ranked the 730 patent law firms with 50+ patents issued based on the average number of numbering, antecedent basis, and word support errors detected in their patents.

Marina Portnova, partner and Chair of Lowenstein's Software & Electronics practice, says: "The explosive growth of cutting edge technologies such as generative AI have increased demand for our patent team's well known capabilities in protecting and monetizing the most innovative ideas. We fully expect the number of our USPTO filings to keep increasing and our thriving Patent Counseling & Prosecution practice to continue to grow in the coming year."

Kevin O. Grange, partner in the firm's Patent Counseling & Prosecution, Intellectual Property, and Emerging Companies & Venture Capital groups as well as managing partner of Lowenstein's Utah office, adds: "These rankings from Patent Bots, added to our consistent annual recognition by Juristat, in the areas of both TC 2100 and TC 2400 (computer networks, multiplex, cable, and cryptography/security), are an excellent indication of Lowenstein's superior track record in patent work across the most pioneering technologies."

In addition to Portnova and Grange, Lowenstein Sandler's Patent Prosecution & Counseling team includes partners Dmitry Andreev, Mark P. Kesslen, Benjamin A. Kimes, Paul M. Krueger, Robert J. Paradiso, and Steven K. Tam. They guide technologically sophisticated companies and their investors on the identification, protection, and strategic use of intellectual property by identifying potentially valuable inventions, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, and conducting related opinion and counseling work for companies ranging in size from startups and the venture funds that back those companies to Fortune 100s and leading research universities. The group's lawyers prepare and prosecute patent applications across a wide range of technologies, from stem cell therapies to systems on a chip, artificial intelligence and machine learning, semiconductors, fiber optic switching systems, blockchain, and financial services software.
