Omani Patent Office recently issued a circular in which it is stated that the examination request for patent applications accepted formally in 2018 shall be filed within 2 months as of the official notification of the mentioned circular.
Along with the examination request, the copy of the formally acceptance of the application as well as a copy of the application on an electric saving/memory device, in a ZIP file, with the payment of examination fee of OMR 300/- shall be filed together.
In case the examination request is not proposed within the mentioned deadline, then the patents accepted in 2018 will be regarded as waived pursuant to the article (9) paragraph (5) a, b from the Industrial Property Law 67/2008.
In line with the recent change, we advise our clients having any patent application filed in 2018 should take necessary actions to conform with the recent circular issued.
