Associate Wisdom Hon from Ogier's Hong Kong office will speak at the prestigious China Offshore Shenzhen Summit tomorrow as part of a panel discussion on data security and beneficial ownership transparency, developments in the legal and regulatory framework impacting client data and how jurisdictions like the BVI, Cayman, Guernsey and Jersey are flourishing due to their ability to innovate in these areas.
With the recent introduction of legislation including the BVI's Beneficial Ownership Secure Search System Act 2017, the spotlight is firmly on the question of client data security and how to balance this with legitimate access to data under various regulatory regimes.
Wisdom will focus on the agility of the BVI and certain other offshore jurisdictions' approach to this issue, including continually assessing the international landscape, getting input from close contact with clients and their advisors, and developing/evolving the legal and regulatory framework to meet client's needs and concerns.
