Overview

The Estonian government has provided updated guidance for UK nationals following the Brexit transition.

What are the Changes?

UK nationals who are seeking residency rights in Estonia can register for residency as an EU national through March 31, 2021. UK nationals must apply for a new (Article 50) residency permit before their existing EU national ID card or family member residence permit expires.

What Should Employers and Applicants Know?

EU nationals who were residents of Estonia before December 31, 2020 can prove their residency with a current ID card. Applications for a new residency permit can be filed electronically or in person at a Police and Border Guard Board service office.

The fee for an Article 50 residence card application is EUR 35. There is an additional fee of EUR 20 for collection at a consular post. A fee of EUR 64 applies for premium processing.

Posted foreign workers and cross-border workers may continue their activities through March 31, 2021 if they are not seeking residency. However, they may require work authorization beginning on April 1, 2021.
