December 19, 2017 - The 2018 Parent and Grandparent sponsorship Program (PGP) is expected to re-open again in early January of 2018. The very popular program permits Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents or grandparents to come to Canada. While the dates and details of the program have not yet been announced, we expect that the application process will be similar to last year's process. In 2017, for the first time, IRCC introduced an online 'Interest to Sponsor' form for applicants to indicate their interest in sponsoring their parents and grandparents. IRCC then randomly chose 10,000 individuals from those who completed the form and invited them to send in their complete application package within 90 days.

Will the process be similar in 2018? IRCC announced a target of 20,000 Parents and Grandparents applications finalized which means that the program will continue to reunite families in Canada.

Important information for you

  • Before you fill out the form, make sure you are eligible to apply under the PGP.
  • If you are eligible, be sure to include all the information requested on the form.
  • Do not submit the form more than once. Doing so will not increase your chances of being chosen to apply to sponsor. IRCC will remove duplicate forms.
