The Province has passed sweeping legislative changes to the planning and development regime in Ontario.

Summary

On June 6, 2019, the Ontario government passed Bill 108, More Homes, More Choice Act, 2019.

As summarized in our previous post, Bill 108 proposes amendments across 13 statutes, with the intention of cutting red tape, reducing costs, and increasing the supply of housing in Ontario.

While some of the amendments come into force as of Royal Assent (i.e., June 6, 2019), other changes, including revisions to the Planning Act, the Ontario Heritage Act, and other key amendments for planning appeals under the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal Act, 2017, will come into force upon proclamation, on a date, or dates, to be determined.

Transition regulations are also anticipated to be released at a future time in connection with proclamation.
