The transitional period for implementing the AEMC's final rule on embedded networks and customer access to the NEM ends on 31 March 2018. See our update from last year here.

In short, some network exemption holders need to appoint an embedded network manager by 31 March 2018. The AER has put together a handy online tool to determine who requires an ENM. Check it out if you operate an embedded network.

In other acronym-heavy energy news:

  • The AEMC recently published its draft report on the frequency control frameworks review. The report proposes improved frequency control arrangements for network security, and has potential implications for FCAS markets. It's open for feedback until 24 April 2018.
  • The AEMC is canvassing views on a new rule proposed by the COAG Energy Council to establish a register of distributed energy resources (e.g. batteries, rooftop solar). The register would give AEMO and distribution businesses additional data to allow for more accurate forecasting of consumer demand.
  • The AER released a revised version of the retail exempt selling guideline ( version 5). The update provides greater protections to customers of exempt sellers and further alignment between exempt selling and the retail authorisation framework.
