Costa Rica is an important market for ZEPOL Laboratories S.A. Therefore, the Costa Rican Ministry of Health warned the general public about counterfeit medicine discovered in Guatemala under a Resolution dated May 10, 2016.

The Costa Rican Ministry made some recommendations in order to prevent the population from using counterfeit medicines:

  • Always check that drugs are listed on the website with the corresponding health registry of Costa Rica (by https://registrelo.go.cr).
  • Acquire medical products only in the official establishments as the approved by the Ministry of Health.
  • Report any suspicion of counterfeit cream "ZEPOL DEPORTISTA MUSCULAR" and/or any other medicines to the Regulation Department of Health Interest Products of the Ministry of Health.

ZEPOL Laboratories S.A. (based in Guatemala) has reported to the Costa Rican Ministry that some counterfeit versions of the medicine "ZEPOL DEPORTISTA MUSCULAR" were detected and sold in some informal markets of Guatemala.

The product has been registered in both Guatemala and Costa Rica since 2012. In Costa Rica the product is recorded under No. 2101-FN-12446.

"ZEPOL DEPORTISTA MUSCULAR" is a cream manufactured by LABORATORIES ZEPOL S.A. from Costa Rica. This product is recommended for the relief of muscle aches, bruises, sprains and sports injuries origin.

While the counterfeit version found in Guatemala is a gel, the legitimate product is a cream.
