New York, November 18, 2004 – Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP was named the top issuer counsel for the first nine months of 2004 by Thomson Financial in its law firm league tables. Additionally, Sidley ranked first as issuer advisor for U.S. investment grade corporate debt for the same period, with more than double the proceeds and number of issues as the next closest advisor.

Sidley advised issuers on $187.7 billion in total proceeds on 317 transactions, representing a market share of 11.2%. The firm was number two underwriter’s counsel in the same category with nearly $171 billion in deal value from 387 offerings and representing a market share of 9.6%. Sidley earned the number one position as overall debt advisor for issuers, with $49.7 billion in total proceeds.

Of the 28 securities offerings categories tracked by Thomson, Sidley ranked in the top 15 for 20 of them. In the 20 categories in which the firm appears, its market share has increased in 17 of them from the same period last year. Notable rankings include:

  • #2 manager counsel for U.S. asset-backed securities
