We are thrilled to announce that Janis Byrne, a distinguished lawyer and seasoned corporate director, has joined Cox & Palmer's St. John's office as Counsel. With her extensive expertise and remarkable background, Janis will undoubtedly enrich our team and enhance our ability to serve our clients effectively.
Janis was called to the bar in 1996 after completing degrees at Memorial University of Newfoundland (Bachelor of Arts), University of Windsor (Bachelor of Laws), and University of Ottawa (Bachelor of Civil Law). She was named Queens Counsel (now King's Counsel) in 2020. Janis brings with her a wealth of experience garnered over a career spanning diverse sectors. Formerly the General Counsel and Executive Vice President-Legal of Pennecon Limited, Janis played a pivotal role in the company over 23 years. She also has experience in various industries including construction, energy, marine, shipping, real estate, seafood processing, and auto dealerships.
Beyond her corporate endeavors, Janis has made significant contributions to governance, serving on numerous boards over 25 years. Currently, she holds directorial positions in Growler Energy Inc., Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation, and Canadian Manganese Company Inc. Additionally, Janis serves as an Employer representative on the Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Relations Board.
